Tutu time

Gogo was lucky enough to have his great-Tutu (my Tutu) come over for a quick visit.  Thanks for visiting Tutu - we love you!

sick little baby

Other than a few running or stuffy noses, Gordy has been a relatively healthy baby - until today.  He spent the better part of his morning throwing up, sleeping and laying limp in my arms.  Finally at lunchtime, he had his last puke and then we both slept for two hours.  No vomiting since, but a 100+ fever and a hot body to the touch.

There were moments when it appeared as though he'd forgotten that he was sick, so he would slide off the couch to go get a book and was quickly reminded how much his body hurts.  So, he'd stop all movement, look for one of us, and whimper to be picked up.
His swing seemed to be the only place (other than in our arms) that he was happy to spend any amount of time...
Mostly, he just slept.
It's crazy how small being sick makes him seem - our poor little baby!

daddy's dome

Todd scored a stunt gig on a tv series where he had to shave his head with a razor.  We thought Gordy might not recognize him when he came home, but quite the opposite happened... Gordy recognized his dad straight away and acknowledged the bald head with a slap and a "honi honi" :)

sensory board

Gordy and I had a play-date over at our neighbors house a month or so ago, and they had built a sensory board for their baby.  Gogo was super into the board, so Todd and I decided to make our own - with Gordy's help of course.  It's still not finished, but Gordy doesn't seem to mind.

1st mother's day as Gordy's mom

At so many points during my pregnancy, I remember thinking (and saying) that there was no way that it could be worth it.  And by "it" I meant TBD.  I was so sick for so long, and even after the sickness seemed to pass, I had absolutely no appetite for anything other than pb&js, apples, and popcorn.  No amount of sleep could combat the tiredness.  I couldn't sleep on my right side without getting sick... etc. etc. etc.

Boy was I wrong.

The huge teethy grins, the double-arm-around-the-neck cuddles, the giggles and belly-laughs, the dancing, the first-words... it's all worth it - I LOVE being Gordy's mom!

11 months old

Gordy made 11 months old today!!
Gordy is becoming quite the little person.  He points at things when he wants them or wants to go somewhere.  He can say "yes" and knows when to say it.  He thinks that everything needs to be thrown - off the couch, across the floor, onto the couch, etc.  He knows what a piko is and will lift up shirts to find one if asked.
He will string together lots of unintelligible words in what seem to be sentences.  He will read books to himself / to us.
He has learned how to turn around and slide off the bed, couch, stairs, etc. all by himself.  And, he can crawl up stairs with no assist.
He's growing up so fast!!

What does a giraffe say?

Gordy loves animals (especially roosters and chickens).  And he loves when we make animal noises for him.  I keep thinking that one of these days he's going to catch on and copy us... well, he finally did!
Based on the confused looks we get, it seems that not everyone knows that that's what giraffes say.  So I feel as though I should explain - when my mom was little, during a trip to the zoo, one of the giraffes stuck out their tongue at her.  So, for her, that was what a giraffe said.  She passed it on to me, and I've taught it to Gordy.
