big week for such a little man

It's official - Gordy is mobile.  For the last few weeks, he's been scooting around on his bottom and rolling from side, increasing the radius of his mess of toys.
In the last couple of days, he's actually been getting up on his hands and knees (and sometimes feet like a bear) and swaying back and forth as though he's considering his options.
But today marks the day that he crawled on hands and knees!

Also this week, Gordy learned how to wave hello and goodbye!  Each week when his nana takes him around the deck, they say hi to themselves in the windows.  This week when they did that, he waved at himself!  He still won't do it on command, but he definitely knows what it means and will do it when HE wants to.
And finally, Gordy tried Kombucha this week for the first time.  Despite his full bodied reaction, he kept wanting more!!  (We don't plan on feeding him Kombucha often, but we let him try almost anything that we are eating/drinking if he wants it.)

*ps. we are pretty sure now that Gordy's toe blisters were due to jumping.  I've had to keep socks on him lately, because he keeps opening the blisters back up... jumping is just too fun!

we brush and brush and brush our teeth

Lately, Gogo has been very interested in everything that we are doing - hair brushing, teeth brushing, drinking, eating, etc.  So, we've been letting him join in.  After our showers, when Todd finishes brushing his own hair, he brushes Gordy's while Gordy just sits (mouth open) totally entranced.  We got him his own toothbrush so we can all brush our teeth together, but at the moment, he's more interested in chewing on it than actually doing anything productive.
We let him try anything that we are eating and drinking and haven't found anything that he turns his nose up at.  He's not that fond of citrus, but he'll give it a go at least twice before he dismisses it.  Todd is sure that Gordy really likes IPAs and cappuccino foam... I may have to put a stop to that.

And, Gordy just had his first driving lesson.  He never left the parking lot, but boy was he excited to be sitting in dad's lap at the steering wheel!

too much jumping?

A few mornings ago, I pulled off Gordy's pjs to find red sores on each of his big toes!  The sores were super raw and were in the same place on each toe.  We've been putting creme on his toes and them covering them with socks until they heal, but we can't figure out what happened!
Todd thinks it's because the footed pjs I've been putting on him are a bit tight and they rubbed his toes raw.  My best guess is that he blistered his toes when he was jumping in his jumper (he jumped for like 10 minutes straight on the hard flooring) and then the pjs rubbed off the blisters.  Regardless, we've added the pjs to the box of clothes that Gordy has grown out of and will be covering his feet with socks for a while.  Poor little toes!

hello honu

Since we are so fortunate to live a quick walk from the beach, we do our best to take Gordy down for a beach session (even if it's only a quick ocean dip) as often as possible.  The beach at the end of our cul-da-sac is usually where we end up.  It doesn't have the best sand, the cleanest water, the best winds, or the sandiest bottom... but Gordy loves it!  A quick walk down the beach will get us to a small puka in the reef with a sandy bottom, and no matter how big the surf is, we can always go for a swim because of the protection from the reef.  The water is relatively clean if it hasn’t been raining too much and the Kona winds are blowing.  And, the reef seems to be very appetizing for turtles, because there are always honus feeding on the algae and sun-bathing on the sand.  A few days ago, Gordy and I went for a quick beach sess and we happened upon a huge honu!
I’m pretty sure that Gordy thought the honu was a rock, and the honu did it’s best ignore us.

Gordy was happy about our beach session though because, not only did he get a fun ocean swim, he also got in a mouthful of sand while I took advantage of the photo op - he's so fast!

razor-sharp teeth

Ever since Gordy's first two bottom teeth came through, he's been doing his best to test them out on anything and everything that he can get in his mouth.  And, while his pearly whites look small and innocent, they are sharp little suckers!!  He's nearly broken skin on both of us and when we yelp out in pain, he just laughs hysterically thinking that it's a game.
And, although we are pretty sure that this won't get us any awards for parents of the year, we've started letting him gnaw on a piece of coral hoping that maybe the rock will grind down his teeth a little... they're just baby teeth anyways, right?

7 months old

Gordy is the most fun, hilarious, awesome human being either of us has ever met.  We spend so much time just playing and laughing at/with him... it's incredible.  At 7 months old, he's just recently gotten his first 2 teeth (bottom front), he's rolling around from front to back with no problems, and is pulling himself up into a standing position whenever he can find something sturdy to grab onto.  He chews on everything (including us), eats anything and everything that we are eating or drinking, and interacts with us so much more than before.  We are pretty sure that he's weeks if not days away from crawling, which is cool and scary at the same time.  And he loves for us to sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star to him despite the fact that neither one of us is much of a singer.

Happy 7 months to our little Gogo!

bubble blowing

It seems like Gordy changes and achieves new milestones every day.  One day he's laying on his back with his legs and arms flailing in the air like a cockroach because he can't move and the next day he's rolling and sitting up.  One fairly new development is his ability to blow spit bubbles.  I'm sure it helps that he's teething and therefore has excess saliva...

space man

Apparently, there is such a thing as sun glasses for babies... So, my mom (having her grand-baby's best interests in mind at all times) got Gordy a pair.  He hasn't worn them in public yet, but we've tried them out at home and have all gotten a good laugh at him in them.

where's Gordy?

Ever since Gordy was a few weeks old, we've played "where's Gordy?" with him.  We toss a blanket/sheet so it covers his head, and say "where's Gordy"?  He's always smiled or laughed when we've pulled the blanket away and said "there he is".  But a few days ago, he actually played the game to us!  He pulled his blanket up over his head and hid himself... so, we said "where's Gordy?".  He then pulled the blanket off his head and smiled ear to ear!  Here's some photos from this morning's game - sorry they are so pixelated, the morning light made it hard for my phone to focus.

It's so cool to see him learning things and playing back with us!

all dressed up and no place to go

After a lot of consideration and research into flights to places like Thailand and Bali, we decided to relax and stay home for the holidays.  (The fact that Gordy doesn't yet have a passport may have had something to do with that decision.)  In the end, we were pretty happy with our holiday location.  We put up a small potted pine tree (thanks mom!) and decorated it with little LED lights.  Todd got a few body surfs in. Gogo and I went for a Christmas run to see the horses down the street.
And, after Gordy tore open all of his presents from friends and family, we all had a yummy fish dinner.
It's hard to say whether Gordy was more excited about the wrapping paper and bags, or the gifts...

On New Year's eve day, we continued our tradition of ending the old year with a hell swim... Todd did eighty-four 100s and I did eighty-four 62.5s (100 minus the year - 16).  It took us just over two hours to complete and we were both frozen to the core by the end.
Gordy didn't seem to mind though because he got to spend his morning with Nana and Misha :)
We got all dressed up, stayed in, rang in the new year with a Costco crab dinner (Gordy apparently likes crab) and were all in bed and passed out by 10:45pm.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
