battling sleep

I'm not sure what changed, but Gordy doesn't scream and cry anymore when we put him in bed.  Usually, as long as he's tired, we give kisses, say goodnight, and then leave him in his crib where he rolls around for a few minutes and then falls asleep.  But, if he's not tired enough, he'll spend a little bit of time throwing everything out of his crib, he'll stand on his tip toes to try to pull down his mobile and then pace around a few times before laying down and giving up.  The other day, however, he seemed to be particularly against going to sleep.  So, after we left him in his room for his nap, we watched him throw everything out of his crib, pace around, and then prop himself up against the back of his crib in a seated position.  Over the next few minutes, he did his best to sit upright while sleep slowly took him down... it was one of the funniest things either of us has ever seen.

no food for you

Gordy used to be such a sweet baby and would share anything he was eating with anyone who would tolerate a little bit of slime.  Now he's stopped sharing any of his food.  He'll hold out a piece of "yummies" and will then take it away before you can get your mouth on it.
Todd is onto his game, and has chomped Gordy's hand a few times before Gordy had a chance to fake him out.  Goges thinks that's pretty funny, attempts to share again, but will make sure to keep his hand much closer to his own mouth to avoid losing at his own game.  Or, he'll find his least favorite thing on his tray, and will share that.

on 2 feet

It's official - Gordy is a walking man.  He almost never crawls anymore, unless he's running away from daddy, trips, and then has no time to get back on his feet.  He's such a big boy now!

going all in

The Waialua pool has open swim on Sunday's from 1-5pm.  So, each Sunday around 4ish, we all hop on our bikes, Gordy straps on his helmet, and we head to the pool.
His favorite thing is to have us sit him on the side so that he can fall into the pool.
And, once he's done with the falling into the pool, there are always lots of other kids (including our neighbor Sanoe) to entertain him.

goats, pigs, and chickens... oh my!

Yesterday was Gordy's Nana's birthday, so we decided to spend the day at the annual state farm fair!
We ate some grilled ahi on rice (which Gordy devoured), Gordy made some friends,
we checked out the plant sale (Nana's favorite part),
and then we headed over to the farm animals.  Gordy loved the chickens and the rooster.  He was not very interested in the cows.  He checked out the pigs, but only from afar.  He got to pet a bunny.  He thought the sheep were hilarious.  But, oddly enough, the goats were the highlight for him.  He spent lots of time petting and trying to feed them.  Luckily, we found a goat that seemed to tolerate him...
At the end of the day, we were all pooped.  And, despite Gordy's constant pushing of Misha's head off of his car seat, Misha finally scored a headrest once Gogo passed out.
Happy birthday Nana!

13 months old

Gogo made 13 months old!!
The biggest change from month to this month is his walking.  I wouldn't say that he's done crawling by any means.  But, he's nearly to the point where he's walking 50% of the time.  And, while we know that this means running is probably not too far away, we are having so much fun with him on his own two feet!

He still loves his blankies...
and he's been super into reading books lately.  He'll sit all by himself, find a book, make sure it's oriented the correct way and flip through the pages until he finds his favorite page (usually one with chickens or roosters), and will smile ear to ear sometimes letting out a giggle.  He loves drawers, cabinets, containers and boxes and will spend insane amounts of time putting things in them and taking things out.
He LOVES going to the playground and has actually started playing with and showing interest in other kids.
One of his funniest new things is that he will hold out his food to his daddy as though he's sharing, wait till Todd gets his mouth close to the food, then pull the food away and put it in his own mouth with a laugh to follow.  It's now turned into a bit of a game, and although Todd does his best fake cry to make Gordy feel bad, the game continues and Gogo is pretty sure that it's hilarious.

He's not very into actually eating sweets, but if we happen to be enjoying a sweet snack near him, he'll stick his nose and mouth right up to our mouth to get a whiff.  Then he gets super excited and claps.
At the end of each month, I feel certain that that month was the best - that Gordy was the most fun he's ever been and how could life possibly get better... and then the next month comes.  We love you Goges.

bike rides

Our neighbor down the street donated his baby bike seat to Gordy, so the three of us are mobile!  We ride all over the place - to the playground, the pool, the beach, Haleiwa, etc. - and Gordy loves it!!  He even now knows the words "bike ride" and will get excited and clap his hands anytime we say them.

And, despite a recent fall while on the bike (the whole bike tipped over onto the grass with him strapped in, bruising up his arm and head a little) he's super comfortable in his seat.  He helps put the handle-bar down, will let us put his "bike hat" on and will keep it on for the whole ride, and will sometimes fall asleep.

won't be long now

In the last week, Gordy has gone from taking a step or two, to walking back and forth between us (up to about 5 or 6 steps),  and will even walk from a table leg or couch back to a toy or other item of interest.  It seems like he's just now realized that walking may be a worthwhile mode of travel... yeahy?!?
Since he isn't quite sturdy enough to walk around wherever he wants, he has taken to pushing anything and everything around.
So, we got him a mower so that we could put his pushing skills to good use.
Another new thing Gordy has started doing in the last week or so is what seems to me to be praying to the ceiling fans.  He puts both arms in the air (sometimes with a toy in each hand), leans his head back and lets out a big sigh.  He'll even do it on command now... so bizarre.
